Dr Mirza Nehal Ahmad Baig

Regional Director

Mirza Nehal Ahmad Baig (born in Bihar in 1976)obtained his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Arabic from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, after completing his Matriculation and Higher Secondary from Muzaffarpur. He qualified UGC-JRF in Arabic in 1998, while pursuing his Masters Degree programme at JNU. He got the M Phil degree in Arabic from JNU, New Delhi in 2000 writing a Dissertation on Romanticism in the Poetry of Nazik al-Malaika, Forugh Farrokhzad and Parveen Shakir. He submitted his doctoral thesis in 2005 on the topic A Comparative Study of Rabindranath Tagore and Kahlil Gibran: Two Planes of Reality and was awarded Ph D degree from JNU.

He worked as Guest Lecturer at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi during 1999-2006, where Arabic-English-Arabic translation and History of the Middle East remained his favourite courses. He has also worked as News Monitor-cum-Translator for international Arabic news channels for over two years under Ministry of I&B, Govt of India on casual basis.
He joined Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) as an Assistant Regional Director at Regional Centre Srinagar, Kashmir in May 2006. Later he served as Regional Director I/c at Regional Centres Saharsa and Darbhanga, and three times at Regional Centre Srinagar before taking over the charge of Regional Centre Saharsa once again on April 05, 2018.

He has co-translated and edited an anthology of Parveen Shakir’s poems entitledSessions of Silent SweetThoughts, New Delhi, 2010 (2nd Edn)

His research papers have been published in Arabic, Urdu and English journals, besides many articles in edited books on the Middle East. He has participated and presented papers in a number of National and International seminars.
